The Enemy Within; Why Christian allegiance Matters

Note: Things are not always what they seem – this is a long post, but please read it to the end.  This is a critical subject….

As the time of our Lord’s appearing draws closer, it is more important than ever that Christians in America exercise their God-given obligation to stand in the gap for the country that they live in.  Threatened by enemies from without who are calling for the destruction of the United States, and so-called “friends” from within, who seek to distort or even destroy the basic values upon which this country was founded; the church can no longer afford to be complacent.

For too long, those who claim to follow Jesus have allowed the weak and feeble powers of this age to direct their thinking and actions, and as a result, America’s enemies have grown strong and the church has become a pawn to be manipulated by the powers that be. It is time for the church to wake up and claim her rightful and legitimate place in the political arena. If not, she risks wearing the banner of Ichabod and allowing organized religion to grow into the tool of tyrants and her own worst enemy.

These are strong words, but they are not unfounded. The handwriting is on the wall, yet no one seems to notice. Even so, one person can still make a difference – you can make a difference. That is if you are willing to rouse yourself from your slumber. If you are willing to take action and be counted a fool for Jesus. If you are willing to suffer at the hands of His enemies, or even of His friends. If you are willing to be guided by the Spirit of Jesus as He reveals the scriptures to you.

Are you willing? Are you willing to follow even if it costs you everything? These are tough questions, but they are not meant to be rhetorical. Consider your response seriously. If you cannot answer these questions in the affirmative it might be better for you to stop reading now and hope that God will grant you mercy in your ignorance, rather than hold you accountable for the light you might be about to receive.

Before going any further it is important that you understand how serious the situation is.  It is unfortunate that most Christians are unaware of how successful our enemy has been in rendering the Church spiritually irrelevant in the realm of politics. This is in spite of the fact that the Church seems to finally be beginning to flex its political muscle. The sad fact is that the Church in America has been politically neutralized by a large and seemingly growing group of foreigners who have no long-term commitment to the well-being of the United States. Even worse is the fact that while these people claim the right to participate in the political process, they make clear by their behavior and words that they have no intention of obeying the divinely ordained laws of this land if they conflict with their ultimate authority.

These people openly claim that the government of the United States of America will ultimately be overthrown by their government, if someone else does not do it first! These foreigners deceive the U.S. Government by promising to be faithful to it, while having no intention of doing so should their political efforts to influence the system fail. They have been caught red-handed disseminating documents which try to convince bona-fide citizens of the U.S. To surrender their allegiance to a foreign potentate. While each of these items might be considered treasonous in its own right, this last one is in direct and blatant conflict with the U.S. Oath of Allegiance, the legal heart of what it means to be an American.

Please understand, I am not writing this with the intention of starting a witch hunt, or of halting legitimate immigration into the U.S. Nor am I twisting or exaggerating the views held by the group I am speaking of. While this group is still in the minority, it is growing, and you almost certainly know members of it and they probably live in your community. They are so sure of themselves that they make no attempt to hide their agenda, and the protocols of their government are easily found online and in many libraries. Sadly however, most people are unaware of the way their true government has instructed them to change society. As a result, both the United States government, and the Church of Jesus Christ have been severely weakened.

How is it that the United States has allowed a large group of outsiders who openly claim to adhere to a very different set of values and ultimately give allegiance to a foreign leader to become so involved in the political system? The truth is that it was deceived. These foreigners lied to the U.S. Government. They promised to obey it, knowing full well that they hold obedience optional; dependent on the will of an authority not subject to the laws of the United States.

While the United States of America is a relative newcomer on the stage of history it has achieved a position of prominence that few could have imagined based on its humble beginnings. Blessed with an abundance of natural resources, technical superiority over the existing residents, a lack of political structure and an ocean to insulate them from their home governments; the European settlers were free to experiment with the political ideas generated in the enlightenment. The ideals of freedom of conscience and of a government of, by, and for the people took root and blossomed, and as the saying goes, nothing succeeds like success.

Under the motto of E Pluribus Unim, one out of many, the United States quickly put in place the means to distinguish the many that were a part of the one, from the many who were not. Those coming in from the outside were, and are, required to take the oath of allegiance to become participating citizens who could influence the system. Those who were, or are, born under the authority of the state, or whose parents are citizens, may simply confirm their agreement with the oath. They do so by declaring their citizenship prior to participation in the political process, by registering to vote. Anyone serving in a politically sensitive position or in the military must take an equivalent oath, without regard to the circumstances of their birth.

To protect the system and its members from abuse, the courts have consistently ruled that freedom of conscience is just that. You may think and believe whatever you want without penalty, but your behavior must comply with the law. This was a tremendous improvement over previous conditions found under old-world regimes. There a person could be punished for merely holding certain ideas whether or not they were ever acted upon.

This had the effect of making change much more possible, and governmental tyranny more difficult. Any wild-eyed fanatic could declare his ideas and try to sway people to his cause in order to gain enough support to effect political change, so long as he obeyed the laws as they stood. When governments can suppress ideas they have tremendous power to hinder change and maintain their privileged positions. The protection afforded to ideas goes a long way in leveling the playing field between individuals and the government.

In view of the current discussion, it is important to remember that the protection that was conferred on ideas was rightly not extended to behavior. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in the case of Reynolds v. United States, 98 U.S. 145 (1878), that religious duty was not a suitable defense to a criminal indictment. In this case the Supreme Court ruled that no group or individual may claim freedom of religion as an excuse for disobeying the laws of the land because in so doing they establish for themselves a separate sovereign other than the United States.

In the ruling, Chief Justice Morrison Waite quoted a letter from Thomas Jefferson in which he stated that there was a distinction between religious belief, and action that flowed from religious belief. The former “lies solely between man and his God,” therefore “the legislative powers of the government reach actions only, and not opinions.”

The court argued that if we allowed polygamy someone could argue that human sacrifice was a necessary part of their religion, and “to permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious belief superior to the law of the land, and in effect to permit every citizen to become a law unto himself.”

The Chief Justice rightly pointed out that it is one thing to have the freedom to believe in the legitimacy of human sacrifice, it is another thing altogether to put it into practice. In other words, no group has the absolute freedom to do more than think and talk about their religion.

So, who are these outsiders who claim to retain their allegiance to a foreign government whom they claim will ultimately overthrow all others? Who are fully prepared to disobey any and every law that they perceive to be in conflict with the orders of their sovereign, and yet still have the gall to claim the right to participate in the U.S. Government as citizens? What do they look like? Where can you find one? IF you are a true follower of Jesus who believes that you have a moral obligation to register and take part in the political process of the country in which you reside… look in the mirror. As the prophet Nathan said to David, “You are that man!”

You see, there is at least one thing that both our king Jesus, and Caesar agree on – No man can serve two masters!

Now, please go back and read this post again to see what you may have missed. Be sure and click on one of the links to the U.S. Oath of Allegiance, and ask yourself if this is Christian allegiance. I realize that what I am sharing sounds strange to many Christians, but I assure you it is representative of the Church’s views in the first three centuries of her existence. In my next post I will give evidence to support that claim.
